Lisa Stoeffel

Commissions

Lisa has received commissions for people and pet portraits, children’s art, and illustrations for cards, invitations and birth announcements. Most portraits are created by using photographs provided by the client, although some are done from life poses.

The portrait of Harley was the first of Lisa’s pet portraits. This watercolor portrait was commissioned by a friend of Harley’s owner and given as a gift in memory of Harley who had recently passed away. The portrait was created by using photographs provided by Harley’s owner. The focus is on Harley’s face, which stands out against soft blues and greens in the background.

The portrait of Sophie was commissioned by a friend of Sophie’s owner and given as a gift. This watercolor portrait was created by using a photograph of Sophie provided by the client. The whites in Sophie’s face, chest and paws and the browns and rusts in her coat pop out against a simple blue and green wash background.

The portrait of Carson was commissioned by Carson’s grandmother as a gift for Carson’s parents. This watercolor portrait was created by using a combination of several photographs provided by the client, from which details from some were added, while details from others were taken out. The style is representational with some elements abstracted into interesting design shapes (for example the red couch cushions and the leaves of the bushes in the background).

The portrait of Willow was commissioned by Willow’s mother as a gift to her husband. This charcoal portrait was created by using several photographs provided by the client. The style is representational, although details in Willow’s hair have a very graphic look.

The painting of Rand Elementary School was commissioned by Rand’s PTA as a going away gift to their beloved custodian. Lisa went on location to sketch the school and take her own photographs to create this watercolor painting.

The illustration of The Boy in the Spaceship was commissioned by a mother for her son’s bedroom. This watercolor illustration was created from Lisa’s imagination. The boy in the spaceship was painted to look like the son of the client.

The illustration Ski Jump was commissioned by a wife as a gift to her husband (who loves to ski). The client gave verbal details of what she wanted in the illustration -- her husband in the lead taking the jump, herself and a friend of her husband standing behind, and their pet parrot in the foreground. This watercolor was created from Lisa’s imagination.
